The flight of stairs near the top is a bit narrow and does not allow overtaking but the rest of the way os broad enough. You can take your time and be up there till the closing time. The views of the piazza, the mountains and the sea in the distance is wonderful especially if you manage to get a slot near the sunset. There are no elevators and rightfully so. Its one of those experiences which must be done. Its a most peculiar and wonderful feeling I guess where you feel the power of gravity has suddenly shifted laterally. It sort of feels like you are drunk when start climbing since there is a tilt on one side. Come the hour the guards will allow you to enter the premises and start the climb. Make sure you keep the token they give you. Its a free service with the tower tickets. There is a place near the Opera house where bag deposits are done. You will need to deposit all heavy bags before. Entrance: be sure to go to the entrance at least 10 minutes before the stated time. Be sure to print out the tickets before you go. There are no commission fees as the site is official and payment is secure too.
Best is to climb the tower at the last slot around 7-730 PM as you get to see the sunset and the light is glorious for pictures. It is recommended you purchase this a lot in advance as it runs out. Tickets to the tower climb are 18 Euros and timed.
